Details

The Wides are a couple of flat areas in the Trent & Mersey Canal, between Billinge Green and the Canal Pit. They were formed as a result of subsidence underlying the canal, although they are now stable.

The smaller is known as the Graveyard and can be fished from the towpath side on long casts, or from the farm side, across the shallows.

The Big Wide is subject to the same keep net rules, and is more of a trek to reach. It is a popular water for the carp boys looking for a change from Billinge.

The waters are good for bream and roach. They are awash with gudgeon, so whilst you might catch many fish, on some days they'll weigh in at very little.

Fishing from the towpath can be subject to frequent canal boat disturbance, unless you ledger with a back weight. Matches can also be booked for the canal.

2008 Update:- Fishing is from the towpath side only the club no longer have the rights to the far side

Access to the Wides is via the towpath alongside side the Canal from Davenham Road ONLY
