Shipbrook Lakes

Background

This Site was purchased 7 years ago and as many of you know it has been in a state of flux ever since. Although we did try many times to fix the leakage problems we began to realise that the lakes needed some thorough attention. We then put the development on hold and started to work upon detailed plans for the site.

It soon came to our attention that this project whilst costing considerably more than first considered would be a major benefit to the local community and as such we decided to seek funding from external sources.

Although Northwich Anglers are providing the main funding for the project we have been working alongside the Environment Agency who also see this as a community project and as such have provided significant funding to allow the project to start. The Environment Agency also see the site key for the developing young anglers

The Plan

Located on Shipbrook road Rudheath

Site will be developed in two phases, phase one 2007, and phase two during 2008 if funding is available.

There will be a plan of the complex here soon

Local community benefits

  • Provides a unique facility for juniors

  • Upgrading and landscaping of the site including public access.

  • Many locals use the Public footpath that runs through the site and have already commented on the improvement this will make to the community.

Phase One

  • Two pools (Pools 1 and 2 at the top of the complex) will be dredged and reshaped.

  • The pools will then be lined and covered with 300mm soil.

  • Hoping to stock the pools early autumn (details of fish stocks to follow).

  • Modifications to the entrance and main car parking area.

  • Public right of way and roadway running through the site will be upgraded.

  • Fauna and trees to be planted along with general landscaping

  • Local parking will be provided at all pools.

  • Although the Association does not have a disabled section we intend to provide improved stages for the disabled, local parking will also help.

  • Obviously the site will be of benefit to all our members, the site will also provide a training facility for our junior members, the Environment Agency also want to use the site for the development of junior anglers from within and outside our local community.

  • The pools will also be available for rent to outside clubs for matches.

  • The income will provide funding for the continual development of the site.

  • Local parking will also provide easy access to the river Dane

Progress

  • All work is being carried out by local contractors AJK plant from Whitley who apart for doing the work have offered NAA considerable advice in developing the site and were key in selecting the liner.

  • Work is expected to take about eight weeks.

  • As at mid June pool 2 has need dredged, lined and filled. The larger pool 1 is expected to be in the same position by the end of June

  • From the end of June and into July, due to the poor weather work had been suspended, but the pools are now filled and there are even some fry in there from pumping the Dane!

  • All Photos can be seen in the gallery

Phase Two

  • Merge pools 3 and 4 together as one very large pool

  • Move away from the Dane and raise the Dane banks to prevent flooding.

  • Fauna and trees to be planted along with general landscaping

  • More to follow...
